Coming from Abijan (Cote d’Ivoire), French Landing Ship Dock “LSD Foudre” arrived on December First, for a 5-day stay in Lagos, and berthed at the Nigerian Port Authority jetty (Apapa). “LSD Foudre” was on a routine mission along the African coast. “LSD Foudre” departed from Lagos on December 5, 2008 en route to Lome (Togo).
“LSD Foudre”’s call in Nigeria comes in the wake of a series of high level exchanges between France and Nigeria, including President YAR’ADUA’s official visit to France on June 12. On that day, a “strategic partnership” was adopted by the French and the Nigerian presidents covering a large scope of fields of co-operation, including defence.
Co-operation between Navies of both countries is excellent.
The previous port of call by a French Navy ship in Lagos was “BAP Jules Verne”’s (September 30 - October 3).
Under the orders of Navy Captain Emmanuel GUE, some 224 personnel are on board the 168-meter-long ship, including 30 female personnel : 19 officers, 105 petty officers and 100 leading seamen and sailors.
Along with the traditional courtesy visits, exchanges of expertise and training sessions took place on board in conjunction with the Nigerian Navy to the benefit of some 50 Nigerian Navy personnel, in hull maintenance (telecommunication, radar and armaments) and electrical components of engines.
A meeting with the commander and a tour of the ship were organized for the press on Monday, December First. Journalists were then invited to enjoy the cocktail-reception, which followed.

He was awarded the French Legion d’Honeur, among many other French and foreign decorations, which bear testimony to his already long career and his great expertise.
He is married and the father of four children.
