Photo Junctions with LagosPhoto 2016

Organised by the embassy of Spain in Nigeria, the Institut Français du Nigeria and the Thought Pyramid Art Centre, the second edition of Photo Junctions with LagosPhoto highlighted Nigerian contemporary photography through 3 events from June 2nd to 10th.

First of all, about 100 people attended the opening of the exhibition, which featured part of the 2015 LagosPhoto exhibition, in presence of the French and Spanish ambassadors and Azu Nwagbogu, director of the African Artists Foundation.

The following week, French photographer Sami Trabelsi came to Abuja to share a masterclass with 10 Nigerian photographers. The theme of the masterclass, “Body and Architecture”, was an opportunity for them to visit the city with a new look, and develop their creativity and technical skills. The presence of Sami Trabelsi was also an opportunity to exhibit the photos of his exhibition “One Million Ways to Die in the West” (currently exhibited at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris) on the walls of the Institut Français and to present it to our students and teachers.

Finally, the week ended with a panel discussion on “Current Trends of Nigerian Photography”: 80 people, mainly photographers and journalists, attended the round table and discussed with the panelists, which included Bisi Silva, director of the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Lagos.
